Protests in Kashmir over ‘desecration of Quran’

SRINAGAR, June 16: Protests erupted Saturday in Kashmir’s frontier district of Bandipora after leaves of the Holy book of Muslims were found scattered outside a mosque in the area, police said.

People took to the streets in Tragbal village of Yali Pethkoot are and pelted the police with stones after word spread about the torn pages of the Quran.

One person  is reported to have been injured.

What led to the incident and who was behind it is still unclear.

Meanwhile the police have registered a case and have begun investigations.

“Our senior officers are monitoring the situation which is so far under control,” a police spokesman said.
