NEW DELHI, Aug 22: Infiltration attempts and the number of militants successfully entering Jammu and Kashmir from across the Pakistani border has come down in the last five years based on figure collated by intelligence agencies, parliament was informed Wednesday.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony told the Rajya Sabha during question hour that only 103 terrorists had attempted to infiltrate from January to June this year.
Just 38 were successfull.
The numbers were 342 in 2008, 485 in 2009, 489 in 2010 and 247 in 2011. Of them, 57 terrorists were successfull in 2008, 114 in 2009, 95 in 2010 and 52 in 2011.
These figures are based on the assessment of the Multi-Agency Centre on Infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir.
The security forces have not apprehended any terrorists and none have surrendered this year.
But in 2008, the number of apprehended/surrendered terrorists was six. The figure was nine in 2009 and one each in 2010 and 2011, Antony added.
