SRINAGAR, July 19: In a bizzare incident in Kashmir, teachers of a government school went on an excursion without taking into consideration the studies of their students who had come to school expecting to attend classes.
At least fifteen female teachers of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nawa Kadal left their students high and dry when they went on a picnic making the students sit in classes for the whole day.
The students did not attend most of their classes and were seen playing in the sports ground instead.
Only the male staff took a few classes. Pertinently the school has been functioning without a principal for the past couple of months.
“A senior male faculty alongwith all the female staff members left the school without thinking about the students, all girls. They didn’t seem to bother about the education of the students,” a male teacher pleading anonymity said.
“It is because of people like this that the education scenario of our state continues to remain bad.”
The teacher said the staff members had no justification to go on an outing while making the students suffer, that too without seeking prior permission of the concerned people.
“Even if they say that they went on an excursion under the Rastriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), it is unjustified. Under RMSA only tenth class teachers and that too only two of them are allowed to leave school,” he said.
Meanwhile the Director of School Education Kashmir paid a surprise visit to the school after being apprised of the case.
“What i found was that fifteen to sixteen female staff accompanied by one male teacher went on a picnic making students suffer for no fault of theirs. I was told they had applied for a post-lunch leave, but that I don’t believe as it is a case of mass leave,” Muhammad Shafi Rather said.
“I have asked for an explanation and will definitely take action.”
