Keep families of cops out of conflict: DGP to militants

FPK News Desk

Srinagar:

Director General of Police SP Vaid said that militants should not involve families of policemen in the conflict as they are not a part of it. DGP was reacting after militants barged into the house of a DeputySuperintendent in Chillipora Heff area of Shopian district.

“This is between police and militants and families should not be brought into this conflict,” Vaid told NDTV.

He wondered what would be the reaction of militants if police started threatening and intimidating their families.

“If the police start doing this, what will happen to their families?” he asked.

A group of four armed militants had entered the house of the police officer in South Kashmir’s Shopian district and warned his family members of serious consequences if the officer did not quit his job.

The police officer is posted in Srinagar.

The militants had told the family that the police and other personnel were damaging properties of the people and should know that ‘they (militants) can also do it.’

Before leaving the house, militants had reportedly damaged the electronic appliances and window panes of the house.

Militant groups have been issuing threats to policemen not to associate with anti-militancy operations in the past, but the Shopian incident is the first of its kind.

In December last year, Hizb’s Kashmir chief Zakir Rashid had in a video message warned family members of policemen that they would be targeted if they “continue to harass” relatives of the militants.

“You have committed a big mistake by harassing our families and involving our families. If you touch our families, we will not spare your families. You think your families are in Jammu so they are safe. Even if your families are in Kanyakumari, we have the capacity to kill them there,” he had warned the policemen.
