Photo Essay: The masked men of Kashmir

Faceless and fierce, the masked men on the streets of Kashmir stand up against the state machinery on a regular basis. Behind the masks are young and educated youth, who wear fashionable clothes, use latest smart phones and are tech savvy.

Before hitting the streets and registering their protest against the government forces, the stone pelters cover their faces and turn faceless in order to avoid arrests.

In the following photo feature, protesters are shown gearing up for a protest, and what happens when tempos slow down between pitched battles between the protesters and government forces.

A group of protesters allowed Free Press Kashmir’s photo journalist Syed Shahriyar Hussainy to spend a day with them while in action.
