‘The release orders of the judiciary are not honored by the police and the detainees so released are sent to jails outside the valley in the scorching heat’
Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday expressed its deep concern over the arrest of students from various educational institutions and their homes which has created a ‘reign of terror’ throughout the valley.
“This unjustified attitude of police has become a basic cause for uncertainty here,” JeI said in a statement, “the students are demanding the release of their apprehended colleagues democratically but the police instead of fulfilling their just demands subjects them to tear gas shelling and lathi-charge which adds fuel to the fire.”
The largest socio-economic-politico organisation of J&K said, “the local administration seems to be totally indifferent and careless towards the educational career of the students. In addition to it, the police have started calling the innocent youth and students to various police stations and harassing and intimidating them at their presence which has created a sense of insecurity and uncertainty amongst the masses.”
The Jama’at alleged, “the release orders of the judiciary are not honored by the police and the detainees so released are sent to jails outside the valley in the scorching heat. The judiciary here has become a non-entity as its orders are blatantly dishonored by the police. There is the police rule instead of the rule of any law in the valley and the courts are unable to provide any help to the hapless people in this situation.”
The statement said that Jama’at-e-Islami J&K impresses upon the police “to give up its anti-people” approach and release all detained students and other youth and revoke all ‘baseless’ cases filed against them.
Appealing human rights bodies to intervene in this grave situation to safeguard the interests of people, Jama’at also demanded the shifting of all detunes from Jammu to Srinagar jails keeping the immense hot season in view.
