JKEDI approves 884 cases of aspiring entrepreneurs, rejects four cases of government employees

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) on Thursday approved at least cases of 884 candidates who aspire to become entrepreneurs.

EDI will be the sponsor of these candidates.

The cases were approved by the Steering Committee which met at the Institute’s Pampore campus, a statement issued by the EDI spokesperson said late last evening.

The 102nd and 103rd Steering Committee Meeting of Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS) and 49th and 50th of Youth Startup Loan Scheme (YSLS) were held under the Chairmanship of Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary, Labour & Employment Department, J&K Government.

Those who participated in the meeting included Manzoor Ahmad Lone, Director Employment Department, Dr M I Parray, Director JKEDI, Fayaz Ahmad and Vice-President (A&AP), J&K Bank Limited.

Sectoral experts from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Industries and Commerce Department also participated in the meeting.

This is for the first time that the two back-to-back meetings of Steering Committee were held within a span of only three days to clear the cases of candidates trained by JKEDI, the spokesperson informed.

It may be in place to mention that the meeting was held after the intervention of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who earlier this month convened a high level meeting of officers to redress the issues and grievances put forth by the entrepreneurs trained by JKEDI under its different schemes.

Pertinently the Chief Minister on May 13 met over 2000 entrepreneurs and candidates trained by JKEDI from across the State at her residential office to get their feedback.

Earlier, 619 cases were approved by the Steering Committee during the 102nd meeting of Seed Capital Fund Scheme and 49th meeting of YSLS.

“Today out of 260 cases placed before the Committee under SCFS, 250 cases involving the total project cost of Rs 1478.55 lakh including Seed Capital of Rs 748.72 lakh were approved,” the spokesperson said.

“Decision in respect of six cases was deferred as more clarifications were sought by the Steering Committee.  These cases will be considered in the next Steering Committee meeting after the relevant issues are clarified. Four cases were rejected as the candidates were found already employed,” the statement added.

“15 cases placed before the same Committee under Youth Startup Loan Scheme involving total project cost of Rs 72.75 lakh including beneficiaries’ contribution of Rs 7.27 lakh were also approved,” the spokesperson said.
