607 militants killed since 2011 in J&K, union home ministry says; ‘98 IS sympathizers arrested across India’

Srinagar: The government of India (GoI) on Saturday said that security situation across India has improved during Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government’s three years.

Speaking of the achievements of the current regime, Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh said, “368 militants have been killed between 2014 and 2017 in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He also added that in the period between 2011 and 2013, 239 militants had been killed.

“We will solve Kashmir problem by taking the people in confidence,” he said during a press conference in New Delhi.

Speaking on the unemployment situation in Kashmir, Singh said, “Under Udaan scheme in Kashmir, 1912 youths had been trained and 1519 employed from 2011-14. Our government gave training to 20, 324 youths and employed 13, 117.”

Singh also talked about the Rs 2, 000 crore package granted by the GoI to refugees from West Pakistan who have been settled in Jammu.

Rajnath also said the number of deaths due to violence had reduced in the past three years of the Modi government. “Only two incidents of blasts have been reported in hinterland in past three years at Gurdaspur and Pathankot. There has been 25 per cent decline in number of incidents and 40 per cent decline in deaths in violence cases,” he said.

Singh also claimed that alleged infiltration from Pakistan had gone down by 45 per cent in last six months following the “surgical strikes” as compared to corresponding period previous year.

Speaking on the work done to confront Islamic State threat looming over the Indian soil, the Home Minister said, “despite having a large Muslim population, Islamic State has been unable to establish a hold in India. More than 90 Islamic State sympathisers have been arrested.”
