Driver transporting bovine flees police naka in Rajouri, loses life

Srinagar: In a unfortunate incident, a driver lost his life when he fled a police naka while bovines were loaded in his mini-truck in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sharing details, J&K police spokesperson on Sunday evening said that a dead body was found lying in Nowshera Nallah which runs through Rajouri district via Nowshera town.

“The dead body fished out by Police was identified as that of one Shaheen Nawaz, s/o Manawar Hussain Mirza, r/o Bathiyian Thanamandi,” the JKP spokesperson said in a statement.

“During enquiry it was found that the deceased was a driver who had fled from a Police Naka while transporting bovine in his vehicle No. JK18-2037 (TATA MOBILE) during intervening night of 01/02:06:2017,” the police statement said.

Police had already registered a  case FIR No. 76/2017 U/s 188 RPC, 3 PCA Act in the instant bovine smuggling incident.

The J&K Government has, pertinently, banned transportation of bovines in state.

“Two other co-accused persons namely: Tahir Mahmood, s/o Mohd Taj, r/o Bathiyian Thanamandi and Mohd Sadiq, s/o Mohd Khan, s/o Bathiyian Thanamandi accompanying the deceased were arrested by from the same vehicle and are in Police custody,” the police statement added.

It said that an inquest enquiry has been initiated into death of said person which will be conducted by SDPO Nowshera Nawaz Ahmad.

Following the recovery of the dead body, police got post-mortem of the deceased conducted by a board of doctors at Sub-district Hospital Nowshera in presence of Magistrate and his relatives, the police stateent informed.

“Prima facie, the doctors are of the opinion that the deceased has died of drowning,” the statement said.

The dead body has been handed over to the relatives of the deceased for last rites.
