EDI resumes training programs at its renovated Sempora campus

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) on Wednesday started an Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) at its Pampore campus under ‘Himayat’ Self Employment Scheme in which 61 aspiring entrepreneurs will be trained over next three weeks.

The three-week EDP is the first training program to be conducted at the Institute’s Pampore campus after the deadly October 10, 2016 gunfight and also the first training program in the renovated JKEDI main building damaged extensively in February 20, 2016 gunfight.

The EDP for agri-allied, manufacturing and services sector was inaugurated by Chief Program Officer, JKEDI, Dr Majid Manzoor Khan, a statement issued by the EDI PRO said.

In his address to the participants, Dr Majid briefed them about the employment scenario of the state.

He said unemployment is posing serious challenge to the State and “it is not possible for the government to provide jobs to every educated youth”.

“This necessitates the need for exploring the alternate employment opportunities and entrepreneurship development is one of the primary avenues where J&K state can excel,” Dr Majid further said.

The CPO congratulated the participants for taking the timely decision of choosing entrepreneurship as their career option and said only an entrepreneur has the capacity to change the destiny of a nation.

He said J&K is in dire need of creating local entrepreneurs to lessen the dependency of the state on outside states.

The EDP is being conducted under ‘Himayat’ Self Employment scheme being implemented by the Institute for the educated unemployed youth of the state in the age group of 18-35 years so as to enable them earn their livelihood.

The candidates have chosen a varied range of activities. The trained candidates shall be provided financial linkage under Term Loan scheme of National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC).

EDPs (training) are part of the Institute’s ongoing process to reach every nook and corner of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and equip the unemployed youth with life sustainable business skills, the PRO said.

“The EDPs are generally aimed at providing lessons on skill development, performance improvement as well as business cum sector specific and self-development training to the participating youth,” the statement added.
