GST Debate: Governor summons J&K Legislature session on 17th June

Srinagar: J&K Governor N N Vohra has summoned the two houses of J&K Legislature on seventeenth of June.

Exercising powers conferred upon him under Section 53(1) of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, Governor N N Vohra, issued orders today for summoning the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council to meet at Srinagar on Saturday, the 17th   day of June, 2017, at 11:00 am, said an official spokesperson.

It may be recalled that J&K government has finalized a draft Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill which will be tabled in the special session of the legislature for debate.

The union of India is overhauling its tax regime by rolling out GST from Ist July.

The PDP-BJP government has formulated the bill and is expected to be passed in the upcoming session and hence made a law in J&K.

Meanwhile, the government spokesperson said that J&K Finance Minister met Governor at the Raj Bhavan here today.

Dr Haseeb A Drabu briefed the Governor about the decisions taken in the yesterday’s Cabinet meeting and explained the broad framework of the proposed legislation to enforce Goods and Services Tax in J&K.

Governor discussed with Drabu several issues regarding effective fiscal management and its direct co-relation with increased resource mobilisation which is inescapable for advancing the pace of socio-economic development of the State.
