Srinagar: The toll of the dead in “coordinated” twin attacks in Tehran has risen to thirteen, medical officials said on Thursday.

Two terrorists, reportedly belonging to so-called IS, attacked mausoleum of the late Imam Khomeini, in southern Tehran and the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) on Wednesday morning.

However, in an unprecedented move, the United States (US) president mocked the Iranian government following the attack saying “mullahs are falling victim to the evil they promote.

It invited sharp reaction from mourning Tehran, however.

Head of Iran’s Medical Emergency Services Organization said that another victim has succumbed to his injuries taking the death toll to thirteen.

Twelve people were killed yesterday in the twin attacks.

“Death toll of the terrorist attacks has previously been put at 12, but unfortunately another injured citizen was martyred in the hospital totaling the number to 13,” Pir-Hossein Koulivand said this morning.

The number of the injured people has also increased to fifty two while fifteen of them have been discharged from hospital, six of them are in intensive care units and the remaining thirty one are still hospitalized.

“We grieve and pray for the innocent victims of the terrorist attacks in Iran, and for the Iranian people, who are going through such challenging times,” the US president said in a statement after sending a diplomatic pouch full of Schadenfreude to Tehran following the terror attack.

“We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote,” Trump added.

But, on Thursday, the Foreign Minister of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, termed the remark as “repugnant”

“Repugnant WH [White House] statement… as Iranians counter terror backed by US clients,” Zarif tweeted.

The Trump administration has been accusing Iran of backing terrorism. However, Tehran accused Riyadh and Washington of being “involved” in Wednesday’s attacks and vowed “revenge”.
