‘The detainees who are languishing in different jails are being deprived of basic facilities,” Hizb-ul-Mujahideen said. “the India under well planned conspiracy is putting the lives of prisoners at risk.”

Srinagar: Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Monday demanded immediate release of all detainees before Eid festival

He said that hundreds of pro-freedom leaders and activists have been lodged in far-flung areas of Jammu.

According to a statement issued to KNS, terming the approach of authorities as “sheer extremism”, Geelani said that infamous PSA is being repeatedly slapped on political activists.

Referring to continuous detention of Syedah Aasiya Andrabi, Fahmeeda Sofi, Masarat Aalam Bhat, Mohammad Rustum Bhat, Ameer-e-Hamza Shah, Mir Hafiz Ullah, Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, Raies Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Shaban Dar, Ab Gani Bhat, Danish Malik, Mushtaq Ahmad Hura, Mohammad Rafiq Ganai, Showkat Ahmad Hakim, Tariq Ahmad Gania, Mohammad Yusuf Bhat, Mohammad Yusuf Makroo, Mohammad Amin Ahangar, Ab Hamid Parray, Sarjan Barkati, Mohammad Shafi Wagey, Mushtaq Ahmad Khandey, Showkat Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi Khan, Assad Ullah Parey, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, Salman Yusuf, Mufti Abdul Ahad, Gh Hassan Shah, Hakim ur Rehman, Manzoor Ahmad Kaloo, Gh Mohammad Tantray, Pervez Ahmad Kaloo, Ab Khaliq Regu, Ab Aziz Ganai, Gh Hassan Malik, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Ashraf Beg, Mohammad Ramzan Mir, Siraj ud Din, Mohammad Sideeq, Safeer Ahmad Lone, Showkat Ahmad Dar, Shakil Ahmad Yatoo, Javed Ahmad Filey, Nazir Ahmad Mantoo, Mufti Nadeem, Mohammad Amin Parey, Mohammad Amin Ahangar, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Meraj u Din Nanda and scores others, Syed Ali Geelani said, “since long these prisoners are languishing in different jails.”

“Life prisoners including Dr Mohammad Qassim Faktoo, Dr Shafi Shariati, Gh Qadir Bhat and fifty others have been awarded life sentence and hence languishing in different jails,” he said.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference chief, Geelani said, “during people’s uprising in 2016, more than twenty thousand pro-freedom people and activists were arrested and more than five hundred are still detained either in interrogation centers or in different jails.”

“In most of cases the detainees were bailed out and their dossiers were quashed by judiciary, however, authorities instead of honoring court orders are ignoring all norms and rules, hence detainees are not released and slapped with PSA to prolong their detention,” he said. Many detainees, though no charge sheet filed against them, are languishing in jails since long under the lame excuse of preventive custody.”

He expressed his deep concern and said, “despite sufficient space and accommodation in four jails of Kashmir Valley, scores of detainees are lodged in Jammu in these extreme temperatures.”

“Authorities are subjecting prisoners to vengeance,” he said, “it is state sponsored punishment for both these prisoners and their families.”

Geelani while referring to “haughty and callous approach of administration”, said, “even Judiciary and organizations for human rights are turning their blind eye to horrible reports about detainees’ plight and added that there is no accountability for this.”

“Even though detainees are bailed out by judiciary, however, police authorities disrespect these courts’ orders,” he added.

Geelani said that these judicial institutions don’t take cognizance of the cases and it looks as “if they are hand in glove with authorities and hence maintain silence”.

The octogenerian Hurriyat Conference chief while referring to elderly and ailing detainees, said, “they are victimized, mistreated and no proper and specific treatment is being provided to them.”

“The situation in state jails is more horrific than those of Abu Grebe and Guantanamo Bey,” said Geelani and added that facilities as per jail manual are denied to them.

In an appeal to ICRC, Amnesty International and international organization for human rights, Hurriyat Conference chief impressed upon them to take their cognizance and use influence for immediate release of all detainees and provide proper medical treatment.

Meanwhile, saying that the detainees who are languishing in different jails are “being deprived of basic facilities”, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen on Monday said, “the India under well planned conspiracy is putting the lives of prisoners at risk.”

In an e-mailed statement issued to KNS, Hizb spokesperson Saleem Hashmi while quoting the outfit chief, Syed Salah-ud-din as saying, “The prisoners including Masarat Alam, Asiya Andrabi and thousand others are being deprived of basic facilities.”

“The prisoners languishing in the jails outside Valley are facing hardships due to the temperature and no arrangements have been placed for them in this regard. This attitude has exposed India and the state government that they are intentionally putting the lives of Kashmiris leaders and people at risk,” the HM added while addressing Hizb Command Council meet.

He said, “Despite Asiya Andrabi’s health is deteriorating; Indian authorities shifted her alongwith with Sofi Fahmeeda to the jail outside Valley.”

Hizb chief also “threatened of dire consequences in case untoward incident will occur with any prisoner”.

“India is leaving no stone unturned to muzzle the voices of people by military might,” he said.

He also appealed the international human rights bodies “to play their role in stopping the human rights violation in Kashmir as the rights violation in the Valley is endangering the whole South Asia”.
