Youth critically injured, many others injured in forces action in Anantnag

Srinagar: A youth was critically injured while over a dozen other civilians were injured in armed forces action in Anantnag district on Friday.

Clashes erupted in the district this morning when the armed forces launched cordon and search operation (CASO) in Arwani village of the district. Police said that two to three suspected militants are engaged in a gun battle in the area.

“We have received many injured civilians,” a doctor at district hospital told the FreePressKashmir over phone. “I have myself given treatment to at least seven injured youth.”

Most of the injured civilians have been hit by pellets fired by shotguns, he added.

When contacted, the Medical Superintendent of Anantnag district hospital, Dr Mehrab dropped the call saying, “halaat kharaabhalaat kharaab (situation is tense).” There was intense noise of people in the background.

“One youth was hit by bullet critically injuring him,” a medico at the hospital said. However, he did not share name of the injured youth.

SP Kulgam, Shridhar Patel, had told the FreePressKashmir the situation was tense as stone pelting is going on in the area. He added that few armed forces personnel too were injured during the encounter with forces. However, he did not divulge more details.
