Assembly: House pays tributes to ex-governor Saxena, deceased lawmakers

Srinagar: Six lawmakers have expired since the last assembly session in Jammu and Kashmir.

As soon as the first day of special session of J&K Legislative Assembly commenced, the Speaker, Kavinder Gupta, paid tributes to those lawmakers who died in last six months.

However, the opposition lawmakers are continuously disrupting the speech of Gupta who has not stopped reading his written script.

Girish Chander Saxena, who was governor of J&K in turbulent nineties; Ali Muhammad Naik, ex-speaker; Sardar Rangil Singh, ex-minister; Syed Nizam-ud-din Shah, ex-MP; Rishi Kumar Koushal, ex-MLA and Shanti Devi, ex-MLA have died in last six months and the house paid tributes to the departed soul.

The governor N N Vohra has called a special session of J&K Legislative Assembly to discuss the extension of central Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, the PDP-BJP government is facing a stiff resistance from National Conference and Congress while the joint resistance leadership termed the law as a plan “to cripple economy of J&K”.
