Man shot dead in Pulwama

Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a man in Pulwama district late Saturday night.

The gunmen forced their entry in to the house of one Ajaz Ahmed Malik, son of Ali Muhammad Malik in Arubagh Pinglena area of Pulwama.

He was critically injured in the indiscriminate firing.

The family members rushed him to Pulwama district hospital wherefrom he was referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar.

However, Malik succumbed to his grave injuries at the hospital at around 11:40 pm.

27-year-old Malik was working as a small time contractor.

Meanwhile, late last evening, suspected militants attacked vehicles of Central  Reserve Police Force (CRPF) near Doniwari village in Chadoora area of Budgam district.

Five vehicles of 174 CRPF battalion were returning from Humhama when the attack took place near Doniwari.

“CRPF men were about to cordon the area when youth pelted them with stones, forcing them to leave the area,” said an official.

“The same deployment came under stone-pelting at Nagam market. CRPF men resorted to intense aerial firing until they reached inside their camp. The CRPF battalion is stationed at Nagam,” the official added.

Residents of Doniwari and Nagam, however, alleged vandalism by the forces. “Forces smashed windowpanes of our houses and vehicles after the incident,” they said.
