Clashes had erupted between protesters and the armed forces soon after CASO in Kakpora.

Militants had opened fire upon the forces around 9 pm as searches were being conducted.

Protesters started pelting stones on forces who used tear gas shells to disperse them triggering clashes.

The armed forces had established contact with the militants last evening but was the operation was later suspended due to darkness.

In the exchange of fire, a major rank officer of Indian army was also wounded.

The slain militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

They were killed after the armed forces used heavy ammunition and blasted the house where they were staying.

They have identified as Shariq and Majid of Kakapora and Shabir of Padgampora area of Awantipora in the Pulwama district.

Col Kalia added that the operation was “still underway”.

On Wednesday, two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants died fighting the armed forces in Sopore in Baramulla district.

In Bandipora district last day, the local populace helped trapped (LeT) militants escape by disrupting cordon-and-search operations in North Kashmir’s Hajin town.

Around 11:30 am, the amred forces cordoned off Hajam Mohalla, Hajin after receiving information about the presence of suspected militants in the neighbourhood.

As soon as the forces laid the cordon, men, women and youth came out of their homes and clashed with them.

In Srinagar’s Batamaloo area, heavy contingents of J&K police and para-military CRPF launched CASO after reports of militant presence.

The forces cordoned off Kashi Mohalla area of Batamaloo around 2:30 pm and conducted door-to-door searches. However, no such contact was established anywhere with the militants.
