Srinagar: Indian and Pakistani troops Saturday exchanged firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Defence sources accused Pakistani Army of violating the ceasefire agreement which is in place since 2003.

“Pakistani Army this morning at around 1100 hours fired unprovoked at forward Indian posts in Shahpur belt of Poonch by firing small arms and automatics,” a defence official said.

They said that the Indian Army gave a befitting reply to the Pakistan firing. “No injury or loss has been reported so far,” they said.

The Indo-Pak armies posted along the LoC violated the 2003 agreed truce many a times in last some months. Many lives have been lost across the border.

The rival neighbouring countries have been accusing each other of firing and targeting the civilian populations living in divided Jammu and Kashmir.

The United Nations has many a times intervened and sought end to the ceasefire violations.
