Srinagar: “There was exchange of fire with militants holed up in a building,” said spokesperson of para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Sunday.
Suspected militants attacked attacked a CRPF patrol party at Panth Chowk near Delhi Public School (DPS) killing one sub-inspector rank officer and injuring two others including a civilian and driver of the CRPF vehicle around 6:30 pm yesterday.
However, reinforcements were rushed to the area and search operation was launched in the area.
The Indian armed forces including those from Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and J&K police are involved in the operation.
The CRPF PRO, Rasjesh Yadav, told the FreePressKashmir that militants are “holed up in a building” which belongs to School (DPS). “It (the military operation) will take (more) time,” he informed.
Speaking to the FreePressKashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, said, “section 144 has been imposed in the area where encounter is going on so that civilians do not face any problem.”
Yadav said that there was “exchange of fire with militants last late night which resumed around 3:30 am today”.
A police official said that all the ranks of the state force are present on the spot. “But yet we have no details,” he said, “yes, there is exchange of fire going on.”
Neither J&K Police spokesperson nor Srinagar based defence PRO responded to calls from the FreePressKashmir.
