Kashmir Eid: Dr Farooq out of station, son Omar attends special prayers at Sonwar

Srinagar: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah is not in Kashmir on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr, a revered festival of Muslims, marks end of holy Ramzan – a 29/30 long month in Islamic calendar when Muslims observe fast from dawn to dusk.

He is celebrating the special Muslim festival out of India, sources in the know-how of the development said.

Dr Farooq is a member of parliament and represents Srinagar Lok Sabha Srinagar constituency.

Jammu and Kashmir has six seats in India’s parliament; two in Jammu division, three in Kashmir division and one in Ladakh, respectively.

Dr Farooq won April 09, 2017 Lok Sabha by-polls as 7.2 percent of total votes were polled that day which marked massive anti-India protests during which eight civilians were shot dead by forces.

Omar Abdullah, son of Dr Farooq and a member J&K legislative assembly, attended Eid prayers in Sonwar here.

Omar, the former chief minister, moved to hills and won from Beerwah assembly segment He earlier represented Ganderbal constituency in J&K Legislature.

Sources in the security grid said that Omar drove to Sonwar Jamia Masjid near a revered shrine and participated in the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers around 10 am.

He was accompanied by NC’s Khanyar and Eidgah lawmakers, Ali Muhammad Sagar and Mubarak Gul.

The drive to Jamia Masjid from his highly securitised Gupkar home is five minutes away.

“He is back at his cottage meeting scores of people who have come to greet the National Conference working president,” sources revealed.
