Geelani’s three associates detained by police in Srinagar

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested three associates of Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani in Srinagar – the summer capital of J&K.

Geelani heads All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) based in Hyderpora area of Srinagar. He remains under continuous house detention in his residence-cum-office.

Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Altaf Fantosh, Ayaz Akbar and Raja Mehraj-ud-Din Kalwal, all basic member of TeH have been arrested from their residences in Srinagar.

They have been lodged in Kothibagh police station.

Police also raided the residence of another Pir Saifullah, however, he was not present there. Saifullah is personal secretary of Geelani and lives in Rawalpora area in uptown Srinagar.

Fantosh lives in Bemina area and heads public relations bureau of APHC; Akbar is APHC spokesperson and lives in Maloora area in Srinagar outskirts while as Kalwal is TeH’s districts’ chief of Srinagar and Ganderbal. He lives in Nowgam area of the summer capital.

Fantosh returned from interrogation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi and is scheduled to return on Wednesday while as, reports said, Akbar and Kalwal have been called for investigation by NIA to Delhi.

NIA raided many residences of resistance leaders and Kashmiri businessmen in Srinagar, Jammu, Delhi and NCR in alleged hawala money transaction from Pakistan.
