Just hours after Modi’s cow vigilantism statement, man lynched in Jharkhand

Srinagar: Barely hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that killing in the name of cow protection is unacceptable, a man was lynched in the state of Jharkhand accused of carrying beef.

However, police said that it was a premeditated murder and a conspiracy was hatched against the victim.

The victim, Alimudin, was in his Maruti van and was accused of carrying the ‘banned meat’. He was stopped near his village Bajartand in Ramgarh district by a mob and beaten to death.

His Maruti van was also burnt.

This is the second incident of lynching in the state in the last three days.

Police tried to save his life after rescuing him by taking him to a hospital. However he died during treatment.

“It is a premeditated murder,” Additional Director General of Police RK Mallik said.

He added that Alimuddin also known as Asgar was accused of murder and child abduction and the killers accused him of beef possession.

“Asgar was charge sheeted for child abduction and murder,” Mallik  said, adding that some people involved in beef trade hatched a conspiracy to kill him. “The killers have been identified.”
