Business Community, civil society should take ‘extreme care’ while finding a solution for GST implementation
Denounces civilian killings, pays tributes to ‘martyrs’
Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Saturday said that the business community and the civil society have a role in finding a solution regarding the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state.
The octogenarian leader added they need to take ‘extreme care’ in such issues so that they don’t divert or change the discourse of the resistance movement.
“Besides Kashmir issue we are facing various other problems however business community and civil societies have their role to find solution regarding implementation of GST and sort out the problems relating to their business that they face. They need to find ways and means to explore solutions to these complex situations,” Geelani said in a statement.
He further pointed out, “It is very important to take extreme care that in no case should it change the discourse of our resistance movement and alter the status of Kashmir issue.”
Geelani also maintained that the Kashmir issue is the root cause of every discrimination faced by the locals and political uncertainty in the region will continue to loom if the resolution of Kashmir is delayed.
“It is wise to concentrate on core issue related to Kashmir and avoid any such measures or step that may alter the discourse or hinder its resolution,” he said.
Geelani while referring to historical background of Kashmir issue said, that state of Jammu Kashmir enjoyed a special status, however National Conference and other mainstream parties reduced it to a mere zero and as of now this ‘mere skeleton needs last rites for its burial.’
The Hurriyat leader while referring to Indira-Abdullah accord of 1975, said that this agreement was the last nail in the coffin of special status.
“Sheikh Dynasty once and for all gave up its rhetoric about the much hyped plebiscite slogan and stance,” his statement read.
He added, “It is a rehearsal for their come back to power corridors. The hue and cry by NC cadre is just a drama and a mere political stunt.”
Geelani expressed his deep grief over the killing of two civilians Tahira Begum and Shadab Ahmed during the Dialgam encounter by government forces and said that authorities have declared war against innocent and unarmed civilians.
Denouncing government forces, Geelani said that they care about precious lives and dignity of women folk in the least.
Paying tributes to slain militants, Geelani said that malicious and haughty approach of the Indian authorities is the root cause of all misfortune and uncertainty in the state.
“Kashmir is simply a human and a political issue however authorities are relying on military solutions,” he said.
Also, on the directions of Geelani, a deputation comprising of Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, Syed Zahoor ul Haq, and Omer Adil Dar visited Dialgam and participated in funeral prayers of the ‘martyrs’.
Meanwhile one more deputation comprising of Ashfaq Ahmad and Ab Rashid visited SKIMS and enquired about the wellbeing of those injured during Dialgam encounter.
Geelani expressed his deep grief over the slain woman and demanded impartial probe and exemplary action against the assassins.
Paying tributes to slain youth during encounter, Geelani said that people in state are peace-loving and added that because of the brute treatment and corrective measures youth are compelled to resent the brutal forces.
“Youth are illustrating their resentment wherever peaceful political activities are denied. People in Kashmir are in dire need of peace and Indian authorities have a great role to play and need to solve this long-vexed problem,” added Geelani.
