‘India committing ceasefire violations to divert attention from Kashmir issue’
Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz on Monday while speaking to a delegation from ‘Kashmir Journalists Forum’ said that by declaring United Jihad Council chief Syed Salahuddin as a global terrorist America is trying to ‘appease India.’
He added that Pakistan was not bound to follow the decision as it was not a United Nations (UN) declaration.
He pointed out that India, for long, has been downplaying the Kashmir issue, however the agitations at the local levels has changed the narrative completely.
“Kashmiris are increasingly finding support from the international community, which has brought the freedom movement to an important juncture,” Aziz said.
He reiterated that Pakistan is only providing political, diplomatic and moral support to struggling ‘occupied Kashmiris’.
Aziz also maintained that majority of people in the ‘Indian-held Kashmir’ want freedom while 99 percent of people in ‘Azad Kashmir’ want to live with Pakistan.
“Multiple surveys have shown that a vast majority of people from India-held Kashmir do not want to stay with India,” Aziz said. “On the contrary, 99 per cent of people in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) want to stay with Pakistan.”
The Foreign Advisor also said that Pakistan will raise the issue of death and disabilities due to use of pellet guns on Kashmiris.
Aziz also highlighted ceasefire violations by India, claiming that India had violated the ceasefire more than 400 times in a bid to divert global attention from the Kashmir issue.
“Despite the gravity of the situation on ground and persistent international pressure on India to resume dialogue with Pakistan with particular focus on Kashmir dispute, Indian government has been trying to divert global attention from the situation in IoK by heating up Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary (WB).
He added that Pakistan was willing for a dialogue on all issues with neighbouring countries as a part of its vision for a peaceful neighbourhood, but a dialogue with India without Kashmir on the agenda was out of the question.
He also said that Pakistan supported the right of self determination for Kashmiris so they could decide upon their future themselves
