Three militants killed in Budgam encounter: Police

Srinagar:  The gunfight in Rudbugh village of Budgam district in central Kashmir ended on Wednesday with the killing of all three militants trapped inside the cordon, police said.

The encounter began on Tuesday evening between militants and forces in Rudbugh area of Budgam district. A cordon-and-search operation was launched on Tuesday night in Magam area in the district to capture the militants.

A police official said that the militants were killed when the forces targeted the house they were trapped in.

“They were killed outside the house after they came out and tried to break the cordon,” official added.

He further said the deceased militants – identified as Javid Sheikh, a resident of Churpora Narbal, Dawood, a resident of Mustafa Abad, Zainakote and Aaquib Gul – allegedly belonged to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit.

According to the report, the gunfight erupted last night after Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off Rudbugh village in Bunmakhama area of Magam.

“As the forces approached the suspected spot, the militants hiding there, opened fire, triggering an encounter,” police said.

The police also added that three weapons have been recovered from the gunfight site.
