Anantnag remains shut against militant killings, high speed Internet snapped

Srinagar: Anantnag town, along with Bijbehara and Kokernag among other parts of the district, observed a complete shutdown today, Tuesday, mourning the “chance encounter” of two militants and one Over Ground Worker (OGW).

The “chance encounter” took place around 9.15-9.30 pm, Monday. The OGW is identified to be one Nasir Ahmed.

The militants are identified as Showket Lohar, resident of Arwini area in Bijbehara and Muzaffar Hajam, resident of Kokernag.

Director General of Police SP Vaid tweeted: “In a chance encounter 3 terrorists killed near Anantnag (Islamabad) by joint team of security forces. Their identities are being ascertained. Well done!”

Local sources said that all  business establishments and educational institutions are closed while as transport movement is minimal.

High speed Internet stands snapped as of now in the district. In the recent past, Internet snapping has been the first response of the government after such incidents take place.

This recent encounter follows a series on encounters against the militants by the Indian Armed Forces.

19 RR of Indian army and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police were involved in the brief shootout.
