GoI downplaying sacrifices of Jammu since 1947: Er Rasheed

Srinagar: MLA Langate Engineer Rashid, on Wednesday, completing a two day tour to Chenab Valley said that the government of India is downplaying the sacrifices of the Jammu Province.

“Despite many hurdles created by the Police and civil administration, Rasheed carried out a two day tour to Chenab Valley,” a statement issued by Rasheed said.

“Yesterday, on the first day of the tour, Rasheed along with party spokesman Inam-un-Nabi and other colleagues were detained near Ramban by a huge contingent of Army and police. However Rasheed was allowed to visit the area later in the night after being detained for hours together,” the statement added.

Appealing to the people of Jammu to get united to protect the autonomy that the state is enjoying, Rasheed during his visit said that whatsoever “constitutional erosions” are being done from time to time are equally “harmful for the people of Jammu province.”

Rasheed also accused the government of India of using dirty ways of eroding the autonomy of the state.

While interacting with various deputations at Ramsu, Banihal, Baderwah and Kishtwar Er. Rasheed accused New Delhi of using “dirty ways to erode the Autonomy.”

Rasheed said that “the resolution of Kashmir dispute is not only required to fulfill the sentiments of Kashmiris but huge majority in Jammu and Ladakh province also want resolution of the dispute.”

“The people of Jammu region have offered huge sacrifices since 1947 for the resolution of J&K dispute,” he added.

Accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of maligning the Kashmir cause, he said that “It is BJP, congress and other mainstream parties who are trying to give the Kashmir issue a communal color.”

He said “The way Article 35-A is being dragged and questioned by the Supreme Court and the response being shown by the Central Govt. is a matter of great concern for the people of entire state. People of all the three regions need to understand the significance of Article 35-A and other such Articles”.

Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution is an article that empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and provide special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.

Rasheed thanked people of Chenab valley for “always raising their voice with the people of Kashmir.”

He assured the people of Chenab Valley that Kashmiris will always continue to respect the sentiments, sacrifices and aspirations of people of Jammu Province, which are often being “downplayed by New Delhi.”
