Restrictions in Srinagar to prevent UN March

Srinagar: Restrictions have been imposed in the summer capital city of Srinagar to prevent the proposed UN March called by the Joint Resistance Leadership.

The Joint Resistance Leadership had called for a shutdown and a peaceful sit in outside the UN Military Observers Group in the Sonwar area of the city.

Farooq Ahmed Lone, the District Magistrate of Srinagar said that restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of eight police stations as under:

Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj, Safa Kadal, Maisuma, Kralkhud and Ram Munshibagh.

Restrictions have been imposed under section 144.

Senior resistance leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq have been placed under house arrest, while Muhammad Yasin Malik has gone underground to evade arrest.

However, the ongoing Amarnath pilgrimage is unaffected by the shutdown and restrictions.

Educational institutions, shops public transport and business establishments are closed.
