Srinagar: Parts of Kulgam including Qaimouh and Khudwani areas observed a complete shutdown against the alleged thrashing of family members of Hizbul Mujhadeen militant Tawseef Ahmed Sheikh at Rampora village of the district in South Kashmir.

A complete shutdown is being observed in Qaimoh and Khudwani areas of Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday against alleged thrashing of family members of Hizb militant Tawseef Ahmad Sheikh during a night nocturnal raid.

The family members alleged that government forces resorted to shelling in Rampora village of Qaimoh before barging inside their house around 3am.

“They smashed the windowpanes, thrashed men, women and kids during the raid,” alleged a family member.

“They didn’t even spare a baby,” the family member added.  The family also alleged that men in uniform damaged their property during the nocturnal raid.

To protest the alleged high-handedness of the forces, a complete shutdown is being observed in the area.

All shops and other business establishments are closed.

Forces used tear gas and pellets to disperse the protesters who were throwing stones.

Pertinently, suspected militants shot dead a cop Gowahar Ahmed Tantray of Kujjar near Yaripora Kulgam on Wednesday evening when he was heading towards his destination on a motor bike.

Locals said that police have picked up relatives of some militants from the area for questioning. They added that the brother of a militant who is a doctor by profession has also been called to thepolice station for questioning.

District Police administration while reacting to the news has said that the news report is baseless, concocted and far from the truth and is therefore rebutted.
