Three held for raping two girls in Kulgam: Police

More arrests are expected

Srinagar: Police have arrested three people for raping two girls in the Kulgam district in South of Kashmir.

According to a statement, on 26th of July 2017, Kulgam police received a complaint from a minor girl (name withheld) in presence of Auqaf members of Kulgam, stating that she along with her friend while on way to their residence were stopped by some unknown persons at Kulgam late in the evening hours and brought to an unknown building and raped.

“On receipt of this information, a case FIR number 108/2017 under section 363, 376 RPC was registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was set into motion. A special team was constituted to nab the culprits,” the police statement said.

During the course of investigation three culprits identified as Mujeeb-u-Rehman Sofi, Ashiq Ahmad Shah and Towseef Ahmad Zargar, all residents of Kulgam were arrested.

The statement further added, “Medico legal formalities were conducted and the statements have been recorded. More arrests are expected in coming days and every possible effort is being made to ensure that strict punishment is awarded to them under law.”
