Lashkar commander Abu Dujana killed in a gunfight in Pulwama

Srinagar: Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Kashmir militant commander Abu Dujana, was killed by Indian Armed Forces during an encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning. Dujana’s aide Arif was also killed in the operation, according to a news report in News18, an online media agency.

A fierce gunfight broke out between militants and forces in Hakripora village of Pulwama district in southern part of Kashmir on Tuesday morning, reports said.

According to reports in a daily newspaper, based in Srinagar, Kashmir Life, three militants including top Lashkar Commander Abu Dujana and Arif Lilhari were trapped in the gunfight.

The reports further added that an operation was launched in the village around 4 am after inputs about the presence of militants in the village.

Gunshots were heard as the cordon was being laid, locals said, adding “As the forces approached towards the suspected spot, the militants hiding inside opened fire, triggering an encounter,” he said.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended Internet services across the district to prevent ‘law and order problems’.

Some news reports said the operation was over and the trapped militants were killed but police is yet to confirm the killing. “We also are told that they are killed but let the bodies be recovered first,” one police officer said.
