Claim your national Dujana’s body: Police tells Pakistan

Srinagar: In a first, Jammu and Kashmir police has asked the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to claim the body of their ‘national’, Lashkar commander Abu Dujana who was killed in a fire fight with the government forces in Pulwama on Tuesday.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Munir Khan while speaking to reporters said that the Pak High Commission has been approached for the same.

Khan added that if Pakistan denies to take the body, Dujana will be given a proper burial. He also pointed out that his parents should see their child for the last time.

“Dujana’s parents should get to see their child for the last time. That is why we approached the Pakistan High Commission,” Khan said.

Hafiz alias Dujana, was a resident of Gilgit-Baltistan, a part of erstwhile Jammu nad Kashmir. India considers the territory as ‘occupied’ by Pakistan however, they call it a part of ‘Pakistan Administered Kashmir’.

This is for the first time that the authorities have approached Pakistan High Commission asking them to claim the body of any Pakistani militant killed during an anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Police refused to hand over Dujana’s body to civilians for burial. The senior police officer said “there was no reason to hand over to locals, the body of somebody who did not belong to the Kashmir Valley”.
