Calls on Governor, Dy CM before flying to New Delhi

Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the backdrop of the political row over a petition in Supreme Court seeking scrapping of Article 35-A.

Mehbooba will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and other leaders to discuss consequences in case the article abrogated or taken down.

“The Chief Minister will meet the Prime Minister tomorrow to apprise him of the importance of protection of Article 35-A for the interest of the state and the rest of the country,” Naeem Akhtar, Government spokesman and Minister for Public Works, told news agency KNS.

Mehbooba is also likely to meet leaders of other political parties over the issue of Article 35-A.

Before leaving for New Delhi, the CM met Governor N N Vohra.

Mehbooba called on Governor at the Raj Bhavan and briefed him about her Party’s views and the discussions which she had with leaders of various political parties regarding threat to Article 35-A of the Constitution of India.

She also held a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh on Wednesday evening at her Gupkar residence when the latter called on her.

“The two leaders discussed the issue of Article 35-A and its dangerous fallout in the state as well as in the country,” sources told KNS.

Article 35-A has created a row in the state, with the ruling PDP and Opposition political parties, NC, Congress and other independent leaders, showing unity for the protection of the Article and raising one voice against its scrapping.

The CM met NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah, PCC chief G A Mir, independent leaders My Tarigami, Hakeem Yaseen and Ghulam Hassan Mir.

“We are creating a consensus in Jammu and Kashmir with opposition parties,” Akhtar told KNS.
