What Mehbooba says is immaterial, only PM’s words matter: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar: National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah on Friday said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti cannot be believed on what she said after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the assurances of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Excuse us if we no longer believe what @MehboobaMufti says after she comes out from these meetings. Can @PMOIndia explain ‘assurances’ pls? (sic),” Omar wrote on his Twitter handle.

In another tweet, Omar said that if every assurance of Mehbooba had been fulfilled, J&K would have been largely trouble free.

“If every assurance @MehboobaMufti claimed to have received had been fulfilled J&K would be largely trouble free today,” he wrote.

He said that that it is all immaterial what Mehbooba said after meeting PM Modi and what matters the most is what PM told her in the meeting.

“What she said is immaterial. What matters is what the PM said. That’s the only part of this meeting that matters at all,” Omar said in another tweet.

Mehbooba met Modi in Delhi amid the debate over the special status of the state. A three-judge Supreme Court bench is currently hearing a petition against Article 35-A provision that empowers the Jammu and Kashmir legislature to define the state’s ‘permanent residents’ and their special rights and privileges.

“The basis of our agenda of alliance is that status quo of article 370 has to be maintained and that none of us can go against that,” CM Mufti told reporters after her meeting with PM Modi in the Parliament complex. She said the prime minister has assured her that articles 370 and 35A will be respected.
