Thousands participate in the funeral procession of Lashkar’s Ayub Lelhari

Srinagar: Thousands of people on Thursday participated in the last rites of slain Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Ayub Lelhari in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Ayub Lelhari was killed in a gunfight with Indian Armed forces in Banderpora village of Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

Reports said that thousands of people marched towards Lelhar – ancestral village of the slain District Commander of LeT – despite restrictions imposed by the authorities.

The report added that Indian Armed Forces had sealed all the entry and exit points of Kakapora area to limit the gathering of people.

However, people took detours through orchards and by-lanes to reach the ground where funeral prayers of Lelhari were offered.

Lelhari was killed after Indian Armed Forces ambushed his vehicle in Banderpora village of the district yesterday.

In a brief shootout, two cops were also injured, said a police official.
