Ram Rahim rape verdict: Will wipe out India if ‘pitaji’ is convicted, say his ‘Premis’

‘Escorted in a convoy of 700 cars, five identical vehicles in the convoy’

‘201 trains passing through Haryana cancelled’

‘Centre deploys 107 disaster relief teams’

India: After 200 hearings spread over 10 years and numerous stay orders of higher courts, CBI special trial court in Panchkula will decide the fate of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is accused of rape of his female followers, at 2:30 pm today. The Haryana DGP has said size of Ram Rahim’s convoy will be reduced when he enters Panchkula. Dera followers have lined the highway in Panchkula, and are waiting for a glimpse of their ‘highway’.

Thousands of supporters of Ram Rahim are camping in Panchkula in view of the verdict and have even threatened to “wipe out India” if their “pitaji” is convicted, a report in India Today, an online news agency based in India, said.

The verdict of the rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insaan — which the CBI registered in 2002 and the baba was chargesheeted for only in 2007 — will be declared today around 2.30 pm.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is an Indian ‘spiritual leader, social reformer, actor, director and singer.’ He has been the head of the India-based socio-spiritual organization Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) since 23 September 1990. DSS oversees several social programmes, such as cleanliness campaigns, blood donation drives, tree planting, disaster relief, and support for transgender people, tribal communities, orphans, and rehabilitation of sex workers. Singh is one of the VVIPs who has Z+ Security cover by Government of India. The Indian Express placed Singh 96th in their list of the 100 most powerful Indians of 2015.

It was an anonymous letter in 2002, addressed to then prime minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee and host of other top institutions, including the Punjab and Haryana high court, that triggered investigations into the rape charges against Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Ram Rahim headed to Panchkula in a convoy of over 700 cars. Five identical black colour vehicles in the convoy. Eighteen trains has been cancelled from Jammu, Katra and Udhampur railway stations. 201 trains originating or passing through Haryana have been cancelled.
