Two Hizb militants, including divisional commander of north Kashmir killed in Sopore gunfight

Srinagar: Two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants, including a divisional commander of north Kashmir were killed in a gunfight with police and Indian Armed Forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district on Monday, a police statement said.

“Acting on a specific information, Sopore police along with 22 RR and 179 Bn, 177 Bn, 92Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Check-e-Brath area of Sopore. During searches, hiding militants fired upon joint search party, ensuing an encounter,” said a spokesman.

Two militants were killed in the encounter who were later identified as Pervaiz Ahmad Wani resident of Galoora Handwara, Divisional Commander of HM and Naeem Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam Hassan Najar resident of Shelpora Brad, Sopore.

“Two AK rifles, three AK magazines, 90 AK rounds, One INSAS rifle, one INSAS Magazine, 13 INSAS rounds and other ammunition was recovered from the encounter site.”

These militants were involved in many “anti national and anti social activities,” said the spokesman .

“He said Pervaiz Ahmad was involved in the serial blasts on mobile towers in 2015.

He was involved in a series of civilian/ Police killings and various attacks on Police/Security forces,” said the spokesman.

He was involved in killing of two police personnel in Handwara market in 2013.

He was involved in attack on Police Post Langate in 2016, attack on Army in Handwara and attack on SBI Sopore.

“Pervaiz along with Nayeem was involved in the killing of Eid-ul-Amin resident of Maqboolabad Behrampora.

Parvaiz was also involved in the killing of Fayaz Ahmad resident of Saidpora Tragpora Rafiabad and killing of Suhail Ahmad Dar resident of Kachloo Khaipora Kralgund,” said the spokesman.

“Besides, he was instrumental in recruiting and indoctrinating many youths in HM in North Kashmir.”
