No Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid

Srinagar: People were not allowed to offer Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid amid restrictions imposed in the city.

Lashkar commander Abu Ismail was killed in a gunfight with the Indian Armed Forces yesterday in Nogwam, Srinagar.

Hurriyat (m) Chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the head priest who addresses Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid was placed under house arrest at his Nigeen Residence Srinagar on Thursday, said reports.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tweeted: Time and again #JamaMasjid locked Down, downtown people caged by the Govt raising the “law and order bogey”.

The government also imposed severe restrictions in the old city parts to prevent the protests after the killing of two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants including top commander Abu Ismail.

All educational institutions in Srinagar district and other areas of the Valley were also closed to prevent protests. Train services are also suspended.
