North Korea likens Trump’s UN speech to a ‘barking dog’

New York: North Korea’s Foreign Minister has called US President Donald Trump’s “totally destroy” speech to the UN on Wednesday as “the sound of a barking dog”.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho arrived in New York on Wednesday to attend the General Assembly of the United Nations and his comments were North Korea’s first official response to the speech.

Speaking to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, President Trump said he would “totally destroy” North Korea if it posed a threat to the US or its allies.

Speaking to reporters near the UN headquarters in New York, Mr Ri said, “Back home we have a saying: ‘Even when dogs bark, the caravan goes on’.”

“If he [Trump] was thinking about surprising us with the sound of a barking dog then he is clearly dreaming.”

Speaking about North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Mr Trump had told the UN, “Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and his regime.”

When asked by reporters what he thought of Trump calling North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “rocket man”, Ri quipped, “I feel sorry for his aides.”

North Korea conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test early this month while it has launched numerous missiles this year, including two intercontinental ballistic missiles and two other rockets that have flown over Japan.

Mr Ri is set to make a speech to the UN on Friday.
