Tral grenade attack: ‘Pinky died of pellet wounds’, alleges family

Tral: Ramandeep ‘Pinky’ Kaur, a 2nd semester student of MBA at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), who lost her life in a grenade attack in Tral had multiple pellet wounds ‘on her face and the left side of her back’, the family of the deceased have told media.

The attack also killed Ghulam Nabi Trag, a 70 year-old-man, from Tral-e-Payeen and injured 30 others.

According to various media reports, the family of Ramandeep have narrated the extent of the injuries found on the body of the 24-year-old.

“As we were performing the snan (bath) of Pinky we found hundreds of pellets on her body. She was ruthlessly attacked with pellets as if she was a stone pelter,” Pinky’s uncle S S Bali told Greater Kashmir.

“Her legs had wide gashes, apparently from the grenade splinters. But her face and the left side of her back had multiple pellet wounds. It was a horror I can never forget,” Simple Kaur, Pinky’s cousin told Kashmir Reader.

The police have denied using force after the grenade blast.

“No pellets or bullets were used after the grenade explosion. Few aerial shots were fired to prevent any further attack. Victims suffered injuries due to grenade splinters,” Muhammad Zahid Malik, superintendent of police Awantipora, told Greater Kashmir.

However, witnesses of the Tral grenade attack had a different story to narrate.

“Forces deployed at bus stand fired bullets and pellets on civilians, resulting in massive injuries,” a group of witnesses told Greater Kashmir.

Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Pinky’s cousins maintain that the “cause of her death was blood loss due to pellet wounds.” They also alleged that “nobody was allowed to pick her up.”

“She lost too much of blood. We are told that indiscriminate pellet firing by forces did not allow the onlookers or people present to pick her up in time, and she died before reaching the hospital,” Veerpal Singh, Pinky’s cousin, told Kashmir Reader.

It has been reported that Pinky was returning home after filing her assignments at IUST. She was buying chips from a shopkeeper in Tral bus stand when the grenade blast shook the area. The shopkeeper is still battling for his life.
