Funeral in absentia for Dr Qazi Miraj-Ud-Din held in various world capitals, congregational prayers to be held tomorrow

Srinagar: Dua-e-Majlis (congregational prayers) for noted physician Dr. Qazi Miraj U Din who breathed his last at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday, will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at his Nigeen residence at 10:00 am.

Thousands participated in his funeral prayers which were lead by Huriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The funeral was also attended by the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Mohammad Yasin Malik.

Funeral in absentia was also held in Pakistan Administered Kashmir, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and other world capitals.

Various political, religious and social leaders and organisations paid rich tributes to the deceased soul and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

A delegation of Hurriyat (G) also visited the bereaved family and expressed their solidarities.

Chairman of Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani while expressing solidarity said that Dr. Miraj was a ‘God fearing person and a well wisher of the Kashmir movement.’

Mirwaiz, while recalling his contribution to the ongoing Kashmir struggle pointed out that ‘Dr.Miraj served many jail terms, endured torture but remained steadfast on his commitment towards the struggle.’

Mohammad Yasin Malik, Chairman of the JKLF while paying his tributes said that Dr. Miraj was a ‘JKLF ideologue, a selfless Mujahid and a great freedom fighter.’

Meanwhile, Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar also condoled the death of Dr. Miraj, who has been the head of Government Medical College. He also played a pivotal role in setting up the Jhelum Valley College.
