Army man killed in ‘cross-firing’ in Drang area of Budgam, says Army

Srinagar: An Indian Armed Forces personnel (JCO) was killed after suffering a bullet injury in Drang village of Khag tehsil in Budgam district during cross-firing between militants and army, the Indian army said on Monday.

A JCO is a Junior Commissioned Officer. It is a term describing a group of military ranks found in the Indian Army, Pakistan Army, Bangladesh Army and Nepal Army. Those soldiers holding JCO rank receive a commission from the President with commanding power.

Colonel Rajesh Kalia, a Srinagar-based defense spokesman said the soldier was killed in cross-fire.

“A patrol party of a local army camp came under fire in Drang village. The fire was returned. However, one army man was killed in cross-fire,” he said, while talking to the press.

The army man, according to reports, received a bullet injury in his thigh during a late-night search operation in Drung village.

“He was rushed to PHC Khag where from he was referred to JVC Srinagar where doctors declared him as brought dead.”

The deceased was identified as Subedar Rajkumar of 53 Rashtriya Rifles stationed at Drang.
