Minor boy seriously injured after miscreants pelted stones on vehicles, says police

Srinagar: A minor boy was seriously injured after miscreants pelted stones on vehicles near Pahoo Bridge in Pulwama, the Jammu Kashmir police on Monday said.

“As has been reported that today in the morning some miscreants blocked Pulwama-Srinagar road at Pahoo bridge following the band/shutdown call by Joint Resistance Leadership,” a police statement said.

Stone Pelting in Kashmir is a form of protest and refers to actions of pelting, bombarding or throwing of stones on the Indian Armed Forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police by the people of Kashmir. The stone pelting people mostly include youth of Kashmir with specific range of age. In the local language, it is termed as “Kanni Jung”, which means fighting with stones and the stone pelters are called as Sangbaaz.

The police claimed that the ‘miscreants’ pelted stones on vehicles on the road injuring one minor boy seriously.

“The miscreants pelted stones on the private as well as commercial vehicles plying on the road in which one minor boy Sifti Hyder son of Reyaz Ahmad Malik resident of Gangoo Pulwama, about 05 years old, travelling in a sumo vehicle, was seriously injured after he was hit by a stone, pelted by miscreants, on his head,” the statement added.

The injured boy was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment where from he was referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar in critical condition for further treatment.

Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital or SMHS Hospital or Headwin Hospital is the multi-speciality hospital in the Karan Nagar area of Srinagar.

“Subsequently a police party rushed to the spot and chased away the miscreants,” claimed the police.

Pulwama police has registered a case FIR number 344/2017 under section 307, 148, 149, 336, 427 RPC in this regard and investigation has been taken up.
