Srinagar: Carrying placards in their hands, scores of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) students today registered a strong protest demonstration against the increasing braid-chopping incidents in the Valley.

The protest was held inside the CUK premises with the students seeking an end to the mysterious braid-chopping incidents which have increased alarmingly over the past two months.

Amidst pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the CUK students belonging to different faculties held placards saying ‘end mysterious braid chopping’, ‘bring culprits to book’, and ‘end molestation of women in Kashmir,’ among others.

Students also raised slogans against the incumbent government and the police for their incompetence in nabbing the culprits.

While addressing the students participating in the protest, Navid, head of students union CUK, taking a dig on local police for their “incompetent approach” in nabbing the braid choppers said, “When police nabs any braid chopper and presents them before the masses, they (police) try to befool us by saying that we have caught a transgender, a lunatic man who has lost his senses or a fanatical lover boy,” he said.

He further said that “These tactics of administration can never derail us from our mission.”

The speech was lapped up by the students with a thunderous applause.

Earlier, a protest call was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) in which they urged students to assemble in their respective educational institutes and protest against the mysterious braid chopping incidents.
