Protests, shutdown after woman’s braid chopped in Baramulla

Srinagar: A woman in her fifties became yet another victim of braid chopping in the Ningli area of district Baramulla on Monday.

Protests erupted and a shutdown was enforced in the area against the incident.

The victim, said that unknown persons chopped off her braid. This is the third such incident in the area in less than twenty-four hours. On Sunday, two women said their braids were chopped off by unknown persons.

In the last two months, braids of more than 100 women have been chopped off after unknown persons knock them unconscious.

The police, till date has shown helplessness which has mounted the anger among the masses against the authorities.

On Sunday, the Inspector General of Police, Munir Khan said that they have started a scientific investigation which might lead them to some clue.

Earlier Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had said that braid chopping was an attempt to create mass hysteria and undermine the dignity of women.
