Three Army men ‘thrashed after being mistaken’ as braid choppers

Srinagar: Three Army men where thrashed by youths in the Sheeri area of Baramulla district on Wednesday after they were ‘mistaken’ as braid choppers.

The youths alleged that the army men were ‘suspiciously roaming in the area’. The trio according to witnesses was thrashed badly and handed over to police.

Greater Kashmir, a local daily reported that the Army men were in civil clothes and were thrashed after locals checked their ids.

A police official said that some miscreants stopped a passenger bus near Sheeri and forcibly de-boarded three Army men and manhandled them.

“The Army men were posted in Kitchama, Sheeri and were on way to Baramulla to get search lights repaired,” he said.

Police have registered an FIR and investigations have been taken up.

From the past two months, over a 100 braid chopping incidents have taken place across the valley which has created fear psychosis among the residents. Police till now, have not been able to nab anyone related to the crime.

Cops also said that the local populace is not cooperating with them and without evidence they cannot arrest ‘innocents’.
