27 October: Restrictions in Srinagar to prevent protests

Srinagar: Various parts of the summer capital are under restrictions to prevent protests after the Joint Resistance Leadership called for a shutdown and protests to mark the Accession Day.

JRL had called it a black day and a day of mourning. It was on 27th October, 1947 that Indian Army landed in Srinagar.

However, the BJP had said that they observe the day as ‘Vijay Divas’ (victory day) and celebrate it like Diwali (the festival of lights).

“Restrictions under section 144 of CrPC will remain in force in Nowhatta, M.R.Gunj, Safa Kadal, Rainawari, Khanyar, Kralkhud and Maisuma,” a police officer said.

Heavy contingents of the state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in full riot gear were seen disallowing pedestrian and vehicular movement in these areas.

Meanwhile, militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba also asked the people to observe 27th as ‘Black Day’ as it was on this day that India sent it’s occupational forces into Kashmir plunging it into a conflict which has now being raging for 70 years.
