Filmmaker Sajid Ali in valley for Bollywood flick ‘Laila Majnu’

Srinagar: Bollywood filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s younger brother Sajid Ali is in the valley shooting for his upcoming flick Laila Majnu.

Newcomers Avinash Tiwary and Deepthi, will be seen in the lead roles.

Khawar Jamsheed (KJ) Productions, which is holding the shoot of the film in the valley told Free Press Kashmir that the crew is stationed in the valley from the last two weeks.

“They are shooting the last leg of the film and the shoot is expected to finish within ten days,” said Jamsheed, who is also the line producer of the film.

“The film has been extensively shot at locations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Doodhpathri and Srinagar,” he said.

Jamsheed said that the local artists have been also given a chance in the film to show their talent on the big screens.

“Besides main cast, most of the characters in the film are the local artists. They were selected after proper auditions by the casting team,” he said.

Insiders said that film is a love story of a Hindu-Muslim couple set in Kashmir. Sajid’s brother Imtiaz Ali is working as the Creative Director in the film.

Talking about the script of the film, director Sajid Ali said he is not taking references from any of the old films made or books written on the story.

“I am relying mostly on the folk-tale and trying to fit in my own take into it,” he told Free Press Kashmir.

The film is being produced by Balaji Telefilms and Imtiaz Ali’s ex-wife Preety Ali.

In 2014, Sajid released his first directorial film-Banana, produced by John Abraham Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.
