Jammu: Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday announced amnesty to first time stone pelters.
The Jammu and Kashmir CM tweeted, “It gives me immense satisfaction to restart the process of withdrawing FIRs against first-time offenders of stone pelting.”
She further wrote, “My government had initiated the process in May 2016 but it was unfortunately stalled due to the unrest later that year.
“It is a ray of hope for these young boys and their families. This initiative will provide them an opportunity to rebuild their lives.”
Yesterday, a national daily Hindustan Times had reported that officials of the state and the union government in a meeting had decided that cases against first time stone pelters should be withdrawn.
Later the Government of India appointed interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma also said that he has recommended amnesty for first time stone pelters.
