Shahid Yousuf has been beaten to pulp in Tihar: Hurriyat

Srinagar: All Parties Huriyat Conference while expressing deep concern over the “miserable condition” of Kashmiris detainees lodged in Tihar jail, in a statement said that UJC Chief’s son was beaten to pulp and has suffered injuries in his head and arm.

Syed Ali Geelani in a statement has urged international human rights groups to take serious note of it.
Syed Salahuddin’s son Shahid Yousuf was recently arrested by the NIA in a terror funding case.

In a statement Hurriyat said, “The woeful tale of miseries and torture of the Kashmiri prisoners in Tihar Jail is a serious concern for us as authorities in Tihar are unnecessarily harassing and thrashing detainees on one pretext or the other.”

Elaborating, Huriyat claimed that according to a Tihar jail detainee, “The Kashmiri prisoners in the prison are being harassed by authorities and in a recent incident, Shahid Yousuf, son of Syed Salah uddin was thrashed to pulp injuring his head and one arm.

Hurriyat in the statement pointed out that the jail inmates face life threats from criminals as they have been lodged in barracks specified for criminals.

Huriyat warned authorities, saying if any untoward incident takes place, the local ‘puppet’ rulers shall have to face consequences.

Hurriyat urged the International Red Cross and Amnesty International to “take note of pathetic condition of political detainees and impress upon India to shun its callous attitude towards detainees (besides) use influence for immediate release of all detainees”.
